and Best Bred-By Exhibitor at the National Specialty. Returning in 2024 he finished his title the first day and as a move-up the next day he won Best of Breed. If that wasn’t enough, the following day he won the National Specialty and on to a Group 1. The fourth day he won the Breed again and a Group 4. As it’s a very long way from California to Purina Farms, three days and two nights on the road, and we find four days of shows enough, we left for home Monday morning. We brought a young 18-month-old dog to show, hoping to finish his title and perhaps a bit more. We are thrilled with what Jiminy has accomplished and to date he is undefeated in the toughest breed competition in the country, first in the dog classes and then at the breed level as a Champion. He is the result of our version of an outcross, back to a dog we whelped in 1995, keeping the last of the frozen semen for the beautiful Ch. King’s Mtn. Tilly Tiptoes. Jiminy is the sire of two beautiful young daughters out of Ch King’s Mtn. Holly Berry BCAT CGC TKN TL-I UL-I. The pedigrees of these dogs can be found on dandiebase.com. Jiminy is as beautiful on the inside as he is on the outside, a wonderfully sweet dog to live with. Jiminy is the culmination of 48 years of King’s Mtn. Breeding and yes we are very proud. Breeders: Sandra Pretari Hickson, Betty-Anne Stenmark, and BJ Pumfrey From the President It is hard to believe that we have reached the halfway mark for 2024! What a busy six months for a number of your officers, board, and committees, starting with the 2024 DDTCA National Specialty. Kudos to Sandra Pretari Hickson and her team for another special National with fuve days of competition for Dandies! Yes, there were a few anxious moments, as the superintendent tried to relocate us when Best of Breed competition was in the ring, but the amazing ring steward (spouse of Judge Bergit Coady-Kabel, by the way) had her class assembled and judging underway before the superintendent could force the move. Rest assured there will be conversations with both the host club, who was not at fault, and the superintendent, who just plain scheduled us in the wrong ring, to avoid this drama in the future. There are several reasons for wanting to stay at Purine Farms, so as of right now, plan on “same time, same place” for the 2025 DDTCA National Specialty. We are also now able to announce, pending AKC approval, the judges for the 2025 Specialty. Mrs. Mike Macbeth from Canada will be doing regular and non-regular classes. Sweepstakes, puppy and veteran, will be judged by Diane Hanowitz. For 2026, John Wade will adjudicate the regular and non-regular classes and Karen Dorn will judge puppy and veteran sweepstakes. In order to give the all-breed clubs our selections in time for their panels, we will be doing the ballot process for the 2027 and 2028 Nationals later this year, hopefully, using the electronic ballot process approved in the updated bylaws last year. Elsewhere in this issue you will find complete information describing a very exciting new DDTCA program – the Versatile Dandie! Thanks to Mary Downs and D’Arcy Downs-Vollbracht
and their performance committee, the Board approved this new club recognition for our hard-working Dandies. I cannot wait to see who is the first to apply, and how many “big” recognition rosettes we will provide next year celebrating these dogs at the National. Details and application forms will also be posted to our website: www.ddtca.org The Board also approved two additional outreach tools for our club. A dedicated YouTube channel is in the works, along with a presence on Instagram. TikTok may be added later, pending the outcome of the ownership issues currently surrounding this specific platform. In its current form, “X” will not be used by the DDTCA. The Communications and Social Media committee is on the way to being up and running, and the success of these new channel, plus a revamping of our Facebook page, depends on your contributions! Watch for a special DandieFlash in the near future with information on how to provide materials for each of these channels. Outreach Coordinator Diane Hanowitz has updated the listing of events where Dandies may attend and meet the public. Check under Events on the website and watch for announcements on our Facebook page. Video clips from these events will be welcome and may be posted to the YouTube channel as well. Finally, we are catching up for the championship medallions and providing breed medallions for the AKC show in Orlando, Florida in December. Club championship medallions are provided to any Dandie Dinmont who completes an AKC championship-regular championship only, not grand championships. We have the new titles lists for 2021-current from AKC and will be mailing the medallions next month. If your dog finished before 2021 and you did not receive a medallion, please contact me with the dog’s name and AKC number for conformation and we will send out the medallion. The medallions for the December, 2024 AKC show will be given for Best of Breed, Best of Opposite Sex, Select Dog, Select Bitch, and Best Bred By Exhibitor, per AKC guidelines. As summer heats up, please take care of yourselves and your dogs-stay cool and watch this space for more exciting opportunities to showcase our wonderful breed! Any questions, ideas, or issues, please do not hesitate to contact me at sandywolfskill@gmail.com. Sandy Wolfskill Delegate Report I would be remiss if I did thank our former Delegate, Karen Dorn, for 16 years of service to the breed and to the DDTCA. As I was leaving for Newark, New Jersey, for my first Delegates meetings, I also received a call from Karen and not only had she lined me up with friends she had made that would be helpful to me, but even arranged for me to join the group for dinner. Thank you, Karen, for everything. Canine Health Committee – June 10, 2024 Dr. Charles Garvin reported on the activities of the AKC Canine Health Foundation. As a demonstration of the Foundation’s ability to respond rapidly to emerging health concerns, Dr. Garvin cited a recent award to Dr. David Needle, University of New Hampshire, directed at determining whether or not the agent
