• Provide means of cooling the environmental temperature – by providing fans especially for those more at risk • Provide cool objects for heat conduction – provide cool mats or freeze water in bottles to lie on • Consider purchasing a portable air conditioning unit (this can also be used during transportation) • Keep water bowls cool by adding ice cubes Whilst writing this it doesn’t look likely that the scorching summer prediction will come true, but as the saying goes: ‘’Best to be prepared!’’

HOMEMADE DOG ICE CREAM

Yummy dog ice cream is now widely available – or you can make your own!

Ingredients: • 200ml natural yoghurt • 2 x bananas

• 1 large heaped teaspoon peanut butter (ensure it doesn’t contain xylitol as this is toxic to dogs) • Fruit/vegetable to suit (e.g. strawberries, cucumber, carrots and raspberries) Method: • Blend the banana, yoghurt and peanut butter together to form a thick smoothie. • Add your chosen fruit/veg to a mould such as a silicon ice cube tray of dog Kong toy and then pour over the smoothie. • Freeze (ideally minimum of 8 hours). • Take them out of the freezer, run under warm water for 2 seconds to ensure no tongues stick to the ice cream treat. • Let your dog enjoy it and cool off! – Remember to keep an eye ondaily calorie intake…

Cooling Coats – Note cooling coats must be kept wet to keep the dog cool.
