M&P Winter 2024

Catherine Galla LoCascio, Board

Dandies. The pandemic was still going strong so we just drove to and from without stopping. And the adventure with Marion has not stopped. Last year we got a call from the Dandie rescue and that is how we got Lord Robin at three months old! One last summary of my background, I can go for pages if you let me: 1. Broadcast engineer 2. Pipe Sergeant and Manager of St. Brendan the Navigator Pipes and Drums 3. Co-chair EUSPBA Metro Branch I am looking forward to learning how the organization works and helping keep this crazy breed around for many more generations. Sandra Pretari Hickson, Vice President 4. Navy veteran 5. Dandie lover

I am honored to begin my second term on the Board of the DDTCA. My husband and I began our love affair with Dandies in approximately 2004 when we acquired our first and eventually second Dandie from Scoshire Kennels in New York. We had done our research, but nothing could have prepared us for how endearing, tenacious,

and lively these little terriers were. We were hooked! In the midst of two busy careers, both Dandies were pets and we began attending breed events and soon joined the club. We participated in many Meet the Breed, Celtic festivals, and parades in hopes of exposing as many folks as possible to our beloved Dandies. Along the way we attended two of the three events in Scotland, rescued another Dandie from a bad situation in Missouri, and have recently added a lovely little girl who is tempting us into the show ring. We have made many Dandie friends, all of whom share our passion for this breed and I am committed to contribute whatever I can to ensure that Dandie Dinmont Terriers will flourish. Sandra Wolfskill, President

Unlike a lot of dog people, I was not born into dogs. I got my first show dog in 1993 when in my late 20s, an Akita, the breed I exhibited for many years and now judge. I am also currently licensed to judge Dandies and Border Terriers, Dachs-hunds, and Otterhounds, and the Working Group. In 1996 I met

“Sandy,” half of the Elfwish gang, along with Donna Francis, the other half of the Elfwish gang, made the transition from Pembroke Welsh Corgis to Dandie Dinmont Terriers in 2003, after a three-year wait, with the arrival of a very cute mustard puppy bitch, “Els beth,” who over time became CH King’s Mtn. Elsbeth

Betty-Anne Stenmark and the rest is history, as they say. I became and am currently the other half of King’s Mtn. Dandies. I have been a Board member previously and am currently a member of the Judges Education Committee, the editor of Mustard & Pepper and the National Specialty Show Chairman. Thank you so much for this opportunity to return to the Voard. I am passionate about our breed and am very much looking forward to do my best to represent both our breed and those of us who love them. Melissa Jethanandani, Board Goals: • Help to increase awareness of DDT • Encourage membership of the DDTCA

Elfwish! The shift from one achondroplastic breed to another was easy; the shift from “wash and wear” to the “grooming forever” world was significant. But well worth the change. I have had the privilege of serving the DDTCA as a Board member, trophy chairman, AKC Gazette columnist, National Specialty Chairman, and recently as the Vice President. As President for the 2024-2026 term, I look forward to meeting more members of our club and continuing the work undertaken during the last Board to modernize and expand our work for the preservation of the breed.

• Increase participation at the National Specialty, this can also be done by encouraging people who do not show to participate in various dog sports and

helping to facilitate various sports at the National. • Encourage people to try various dog sports • Re-evaluate goals each year.
