M&P Winter 2024
D edicated DDTCA members and dogs displayed breed booths at Highland Games in Kelso, WA, and McMinnville, OR, in September and October, respectively, to great success. Our booth at the Kelso Highlander Festival, was staffed over a very warm weekend by Scott and Kara Coykendall, Janis Machala and David Stenberg, and Jeanette Rogers with Dandies Dewey, Hairriot, Aether, and Fiona. Surpassing our booth record of last year, 300 people met Dandies on Saturday, followed by 150 on Sunday. The dogs charmed everyone they met, even adding members of the event staff, Games competitors, and fellow clan conveners to the ranks of those who will pursue a Dandie as a next dog. McMinnville’s MAC Scottish Festival, only a few weeks after Kelso, surpassed all of our expectations, both in terms of attendance and early autumn heat. Scott and Kara Coykendall, Linda Leis, and Dandie fan Tina Rustvold helped Dewey, Darby, Fiona, and Sookie meet 700 people PNW Autumn 2023 MEET THE DANDIES Events Kara Coykendall
throughout the weekend! Our sincere gratitude to Tina for making the trip, and to Barbara Baese and Rich Mollicone of Mollibay Dandies for allowing Sookie to participate. The dogs sported their official tartans for the daily parades, strutting, bouncing, and zooming for the cheering crowds. Back at the booth, the Dandies relaxed under fans with cold packs while the humans configured the canopy wall panels to maximize airflow. When then sun made the petting stations too warm, visitors funneled to the rear of the booth, where the dogs took turns visiting from their exercise pens. The Dandie magic even managed to convert some folks who have owned other terrier breeds, not an easy task! We look forward to another successful season of breed events in 2024, and always welcome new volunteers, human or Dandie.
