Mustard & Pepper Fall 2022
Reflections on Special Moments in Scotland 2022 “ As I was sitting on a nearby bench, awaiting the start of the event marking The Fleece Bar and Restaurant as the meeting place of the oldest breed club in the UK (Dandies), a young cyclist sat down and we began to talk. He was very curious about the crowd gathering and I told his about the event, the origin of Dandies, the his- tory of Sir Walter Scott and the Dandie breed being of Scottish descent, explaining that we all were there to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the breed. Soon we were surrounded by Dandies and their humans and my young friend took pictures of the dogs, petted them and was so excited that he was actually able to see the breed and gather the knowledge and history and said he was going to post about the experience on his Facebook page. ” “ One of the most amazing things for me was at the pic- nic at Dryburgh Abbey, looking at all the Dandies as they observed all the goings - on. The looks on their faces were penetrating, they were taking it all in: pensive, wondering about what was going on. We all know Dan- dies and their wonderful facial expressions, but seeing all of them, each so individual and unique—that was astounding to me to watch. ” “ We revisited the Haining, the site of the sculpture of Old Ginger. A tree had fallen on the statue and the area had been redone since our last visit. It was exceedingly well done and peaceful. ” Celebrating the origins and history of this breed, and using this opportunity to introduce them to others who do not know Dandies, is part of bringing this breed back from the edge oe extinction. We thank all who participat- ed from all over the world.
