But was there an earlier Dandie Dinmont Club in the United States? Certainly, there were a number of hints suggesting that there was an earlier club. In her column from 1930 or 1931, Elizabeth Fellows writes, in regards to forming a

Dandie Club, “‘ Up to yet ’ as the boys say, I have only heard from three people who care to have anything to do with a Dandie Club, or would be interested in joining. Is it a fact that all the rest of the breeders do not care to organize for the good of the breed, or do you neglect to let us know of your interest? Several of the breeders whom I know personally have been working hard to find out the important steps necessary to the establishment or re - establishment of such a club, with a view to all pushing our game little friend to the front, our own Specialty Show in the summer, and in many other ways helping the breed. ” The phrase, “ or re - establishment ” is key here, because it is the first hint of a previous Dandie Dinmont Club in the United States. In another column Elizabeth Fellows writes, “ A letter from Miss Esther Bird, of the Heatherdon Kennels in Greenwich, Conn., give us news of Mr. Maclay, who was one of the pioneers of our breed in this country. He had some of the finest Dandies in the United States at one time, and was president of the Dandie Dinmont Terrier Club of America. ”

Foster Rawlins. ” From the American Kennel Gazette and Stud Book volume 34, 1922: Specialty Club Secretaries Dandie Dinmont – Mrs. Adams Sumner Active members: Dandie Dinmont Terrier Club Delegate James J. Fox, 358 Fifth Ave., New York City That is the last AKC record of the original Dandie Dinmont Terrier Club and there is no further record of a Dandie Dinmont Terrier Club (Continued on page 26)
