AKC Delegate Report
of America, Inc.
Champion Points Available from Group Two, Three, and Four Placements by Karen Dorn This change in Dog Show Rules is a real benefit to all low breed entries, like our Dandie Dinmont Terriers. It is also a benefit to outstanding class animals of any breed. It may also cause an increase in entries in small All - breed dog shows. Your delegate went on record to support this issue and called for all delegates to vote in favor. She thanked the AKC staff for proposing the rule and the AKC board for supporting it. The rule passed with over the two - thirds required. About a decade ago the delegates voted for the AKC Board of Directors to have term limits. They clearly felt that every so often each member should have to vacate the Board for one year and rerun if they wished to continue. Since that time the By - Laws committee has proposed doing away with term limits three times. Needing a two - thirds vote to pass, this has been voted down the last two times and was again voted down this time. The committee tried calling all the new delegates to gain their support. There was for the first time a majority in favor, but not the two - thirds needed for passage. The AKC nominating committee headed by Silvia Thomas from the Riverside, California Kennel Club proposed the following three delegates for the class of 2027: Karen J. Burgess from the Greater Clark County Kennel Club, Inc. Marge B. Calltharp from the Chinese Shar - Pei Club
Linda C. Flynn from the South Shore Kennel Club, Inc. Delegates can run from the floor by submitting a petition signed by other delegates. The delegates that are running will address the delegate body at the December meeting and will be voted on and seated at the March meeting. The Baytown Kennel Club was voted in as a member club. All new delegates were introduced to the delegate body. The Preservation Bank is moving forward. Their corporation papers, constitution and by - laws have all been approved. They have reserved 10 domain names. The logo has also been approved. There is an article in the delegate “ Prospective ” publication that is approved for distribution. This will be sent to all our board members. Twenty - one clubs have shown an interest in going forward. If we decide to go forward, we need to create a committee and let them know. Jerry Bell, AKC ‘ s official veterinarian, has been working on a white paper on this topic that is in the final stages. Website development has started and can be reached at preservationbank@AKC.org The next “ Meet the Breeds ” event will be in Columbus, Ohio on October 15th. There are no plans to resume the former “ Meet the Breeds ” in Orlando. The following dog show rules were amended: Article IV Section 1. The term Multi Breed Clubs was added to the first sentence. Article VI Section 2. Proxy voting is prohibited.
