NEW YORK TARTAN DAY PARADE
SATURDAY, APRIL 6, 2019
EILEEN BECKER
Thirty thousand spectators lined Sixth Avenue in the heart of New York City on this early Spring day when Clan MacDandie
marched in New York City’s Tartan Day Parade.
Lloyd and I and two of our Dandies were joined by the following wonderful volunteers:
• Cathy and Chris Locasio, together with Chris’s mother, Gloria, and “Button”. • John and Nedianne Schwartz and “Fergus” • Jann Jaffe • Marilyn Appleberg
Many, many thanks to each of you! You made this happen!
In 1998, the U.S. Senate declared April 6th to be National Tartan Day to recognize the contribution of Scottish Americans to
the USA . This was followed by a resolution in the House of Representatives and a Presidential Proclamation. Across the USA
there are activities organized to make this day special.
This year celebrated the NYC Parade’s 21st anniversary. It was a joyous event! Clan MacDandie met at the canine staging area
in front of New York’s famous Algonquin Hotel prior to the parade. It was a wonderful opportunity to socialize with other
members of our clan and to show off our lovely Dandies. Margaret Fox was there and took wonderful photos of our dogs.
Many, many people came over to meet our friendly Dandies and we were able to distribute breed information.
